Snegurochka ,the Snow Maiden

Snegurochka The Snow Maiden, is a character in Russian fairy tales.

In one story, she is the daughter of Spring and Frost, and yearns for the companionship of mortal humans. She grows to like a shepherd named Lel, but her heart is unable to know love. Her mother takes pity and gives her this ability, but as soon as she falls in love, her heart warms and she melts.

I realize in the more modern versions she is the helper to the Russian father Christmas. I read the above sad fairy tale and got this image in my head and just had to paint it. The frosted face on the tree is symbolic of her father, the crocuses peeking through the snow are for her mother, spring.
